NOAA Screensaver

As everyone who lives in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions of the US knows, with summer comes Hurricane Season. Luckily for us, the National Hurricane Center at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration tracks and monitors all tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes. Every year, countless lives are saved by the National Hurricane Center's ability to predict and track these awesome storms. NOAA's web site is a favorite destination during the lead up to a US bound tropical cyclone. Their site contains satellite imagery, the latest forecasts, and landfall predictions.

Screenshot 2 This screensaver was written by Marc Skarshinski during the 2000 hurricane season to keep track of the busy tropical storm season that year. Over the following years, more features were added and others refined. The screensaver can be downloaded in zip format and extracted to your windows directory. The screensaver is then selected and configured from the Windows Control Panel, Display page. The configuration options consist of satellite selection (geographic region), and which channel to monitor (Visible, Water Vapor, or Infrared). Visible will obviously appear black at night.
